Josh Smith, who grew up in Bourne, refereed Colchester United’s 1-0 League Two play-off semi-final win over Exeter.

It was a strong reward for an excellent first season in the Football League for Smith.

TOP BOSS CHANGES JOBS

Lloyd Burton has stepped down as manager of Yaxley Reserves after three successful seasons to become assistant to Mark Baines at United Counties Division One side Blackstones.

Yaxley won the United Counties Reserve Division title in 2017-18 and were clear by nine points when the 2019-20 season was halted.

HARES ARE FULL OF CONFIDENCE

March have re-signed 12 members of last season’s successful Eastern Counties Division One North team including leading players Jack Friend, Craig Gillies and Toby Allen.

Manager Arran Duke told the Fenland Citizen: “There were no issues with any of the lads. They could have signed for other teams, but they have all committed to March, which is very positive.

“We were gutted not to finish the season, but we will start again and hopefully achieve promotion.
