Ramsey CC delivered the shock of the season, Peterborough Town's torment continued, rapid win for Oundle Town

Ramsey CC delivered the shock of the East Anglian Premier League season by toppling previously unbeaten leaders Horsford on Saturday.

‘The Rams’ had lost their previous five matches to slip into the bottom two, but they caused a huge upset with a six-run success in Norwich. It was nervy at the end as Horsford’s last pair added 52 to close in on Ramsey’s 233 all out, but Mark Saunders stepped up to claim his second wicket of the match to seal victory.

Earlier import opener Sandun Weerakkody had struck 119 for Ramsey with Ben Saunders making 40 and Mark Saunders 30. Ramsey lost their last seven wickets for just 25 runs, but in the end it didn’t matter as Tarun Mouli returned figures of 4-49, while Weerakkody and Michael Cafferkey also picked up two wickets apiece.

Ramsey have now improved to third from bottom, but face another tough game next Saturday (July 25) when second-placed Mildenhall visit Cricketfield Lane (11am start).

Elsewhere the torment continued for Peterborough Town with a fourth straight Northants Premier Division defeat. Town fought hard to recover from 110-6 to post a respectable 239-9 in 58 overs. Chris Milner struck 52 at the top of the order and Zeeshan Manzoor weighed in with 45 in the middle before player-coach Bashrat Hussain finished on 37 not out as Town added 54 for the final two wickets.

The city side also started well with the ball, but from 58-3 the hosts got home with three balls to spare despite three wickets for Nick Green. Town should be able to stop the rot next Saturday when they visit bottom club Loddington.

Town actually moved up a place to fourth because Oundle Town hammered Kislingbury Temperance by six wickets at Milton Road. The visitors travelled without their Northants pro contingent and predictably crashed to 93 all out in just 31 overs. Seamer Conor Craig was the pick of the Oundle bowlers with 4-45, while younger brother Harrison chipped in with 3-17.

Oundle are seventh, but would be fourth without a 50-point deduction for fielding an ineligible player. They host Old Northamptonians next Saturday (11am).

Peterborough Town seconds are showing their senior side the way to go. They have now won four Division One games in a row after thrashing Kettering by 140 runs at Bretton Gate. Alex Mitchell smacked 127 (127 balls, 19 4s) of Town’s 341-9, a total boosted by 24 penalty runs because of Kettering’s painfully slow over rate. Spin twins DJ Sivaganeshan (4-52) and Dan Oldham (3-12) undermined the Kettering reply. The former is just 14.
