Peterborough Town frustrated by last pair, Conor’s rapid ton for Oundle, good Evans hat-trick for Castor, Bourne win again, Market Deeping lose again, England Lion can’t save Stamford
Peterborough Town’s bid for a second straight Northants Premier Division win was thwarted by a defiant last wicket stand on Saturday (May 1).
Town dominated visitors Brigstock at Bretton Gate, but couldn’t prise out opener George Groenland, who batted throughout the innings for 81, or number 11 Ethan Delargy who survived 15 balls to secure a draw.
Brigstock closed on 159-9 in 50 overs after Town had been dismissed for 283 with Nick Paskins (69no) leading a consistent batting display.
Oundle delivered an excellent batting display in a drawn game at Desborough. All-rounder Conor Craig led the way with a brilliant unbeaten 143 from just 79 balls (five sixes, 21 fours) as Oundle piled up 368-4 in 50 overs. Opener Jack Bolsover (89) and captain Mark Hodgson (63) also scored freely. Desborough replied with just 187-6.
Ben Wright and Pete Morgan struck half centuries as Bourne made it two wins out of two in the Lincs Premier Division with a comfortable success over Sleaford.
Market Deeping were well beaten at Grantham despite an unbeaten 76 from pro Zeeshan Manzoor and 58 from Dave Sargeant.
England Lion and Notts first-class player Zak Chappell made a rare appearance for his local club Stamford, but he couldn’t save them from defeat in a Cambs Division One fixture at Cambridge St Giles. Chappell took 1-23 from 10 overs and scored eight runs.
Castor opened their Division Two season with a six-wicket win over Old Leysians at Port Lane.
Left arm slow bowler Ryan Evans claimed 5-46 which included a hat-trick as the visitors were dismissed for 190. Skipper Reece Smith (68) then steered his side home against a team that beat them in the play-offs last season.
Peterborugh Town started their Rutland Division One title defence with an easy eight wicket win over Market Deeping at Bretton Gate yesterday (May 2) with youngsters Sam Jarvis (77) and Sulemain Saleem (75no) to the fore.
Peterborough Town 283 (N. Paskins 69, S. Howard 40, C. Milner 37, S. Saleem 33) drew with Brigstock 159-9 (M. Edwards 3-45).
