CRICKET: Title for Bracebridge after last-day win at Bourne

Bracebridge Heath sealed the Lincs Premier Division title at the home of Bourne, the 2014 champions yesterday (September 12).

Bracebridge started the day requiring eight points to cllinch top spot and they ended up with 20 after winning a tense battle by four wickets.

Strong middle order batting from Tom Dixon (41) and Carl Wilson (37) following an earlt flourish from skipper Pete Morgan (35) enabled Bourne to post a respectable 188-8 against the best bowling attack in the league at the Abbey Lawns and the visitors were in a bit of bother at 119-6 before recovering. Jack Berry bowled well for 4-48, while Dixon chipped in with two wickets.

Bourne finished fourth, two places ahead of Market Deeping who won their final game by four wickets at home to Lincoln.

Ajaz Akhtar bowled his first spell for some time and returned figures of 5-36. Meli Adatia and young Josh Smith chipped in with two wickets apiece as Lincoln were dismissed for 126.

Deeping laboured in reply at first, but captain Dave Gillett’s unbeaten 36 from number six saw them home.

It’s South Lincs cricket, and matches against Bourne seconds and Market Deeping seconds, for relegated Spalding. They finished their season with a high-scoring drawn game at home to Louth.
