Barnack opened their Rutland Division One win account after a thrilling high-scoring battle at Oundle yesterday (May 8).

The villagers successfully chased down Oundle’s formidable 45-over score of 270-7 to win by three wickets. T

Barnack’s Asim Butt, who was dismissed cheaply when playing against Oundle for Peterborough Town 24 hours earlier, cracked 95. Oundle dropped him three times.

Mohammaed Hammad als struck an impressive 70 for Barnack after Pete Foster had claimed his maiden senior ton for Oundle. Foster struck an unbeaten 110 and received excellent support from Mark Hodgson (61).

Peterborough Town also recorded their first win of the season in a battle of two understrength teams at Uppingham

Youngster Sreehari Subramonian was in outstanding form for Town taking 5-33 as Uppingham were dismissed for 114. Alex Mitchell, who bowls rarely, took two early wickets.

Town scooted home by nine wickets with Kieran Judd unbeaten on 52 at the close.

Top two Bourne and Nassington protected their 100 per cent winning records in contrasting fashion.

Bourne raced to a 10-wicket win at Ufford Park in a match that lasted less than 30 overs. Tom Dixon (3-20) returned the best figures as Ufford Park were dismissed for 57, a total Bourne passed in six overs as Sam Evison (34no) and Pete Morgan (24no) hit out,

It was a lot tougher for Nassington who won by four wickets at home to Stamford after the visitors had set a tricky target of 215-7. Tom Williams finished 100 not out for Stamford and dominated an unbroken eighth-wicket stand of 97 with Chris Birch (39no).

Nassington struggled to 69-4 in reply, but Aussie Adam McDermott (81) and Dan Bandaranaike (47) put on 120 for the fifth wicket. McDermott struck four sixes and nine fours.

Wisbech won a high-scoring contest between two unbeaten sides against Market Deeping by 16 runs at Harecroft Road.

Gary Freear (79) and Danny Haynes (63) batted well for Wisbech in their 250, while Zac Simmonds (51) top scored in Deeping’s replay.

In Division Two Castor beat Uffington by 17 runs in a low-scoring clash at Port Lane. Castor were dismissed for just 97, but rallied to bowl their visitors out for just 82.

Naturally bowlers dominated with Ben Jennings taking 5-21 for Uffington and Reece Smith claiming 4-35 for Castor.

Peterborough Town’s scheduled second round tie in the National Club KO Cup was conceded by Buckingham Town, while Ramsey were predictably put to the sword by East Anglian Premier Division top dogs Swardeston.

Joe Gatting, nephew of former England skipper Mike Gatting and a former first-class professional, smashed nine sixes in his unbeaten 160 as the Norfolk-based home side piled up 346-8 in 45 overs. Sam Latchford (5-67) returned decent figures for Ramsey who were dismissed for 126. Elliott Cafferkey (42) top scored for Ramsey.
