City's leading lady Camilla gains two second places for England

The club’s leading lady Camilla Plumb joined the England squad for the Home International regatta held in Wales and acquitted herself well in the testing conditions.

Rough water and a strong cross-wind made life difficult and Plumb was pushed into the buoy-line by the wind early on in the Women’s Lightweight single sculls.

But she recovered well and only just missed out on a win, finishing a close second to the Scotland captain.

In the Women’s quads Plumb was at stroke and her England boat held the lead until the last 250 metres. But luck was against the crew as the sculler in seat two ‘caught a crab’, almost bringing the boat to a halt.

This allowed Wales to pass them just before the finish line and Plumb again had to settle for another second place.

Closer to home, the sun shone on Peterborough crews at the St Neots Regatta.

Peterborough picked up 13 wins over the two days.

Saturday’s races took place over 1,000 metres and City got off to a great start as the Men’s Novice eight of Mike King, Iain Cameron, Tim Jeffries-Harris, George Nash, Robert Fox, Roger Carlisle, Niall Wordsworth and Doug Barber coxed by John Canton beat Broxbourne in the final to record their first win.

The Women’s IM2 coxed four of Hannah Chatfield, Megan Stoker, Aimee Parker and Izzy Arthur with cox Hannah Parker managed an impressive five-length victory in their final against Milton Keynes, and then Ben Mackenzie and Harry Masterson cruised past a Doncaster Schools crew to win the the J15 doubles by four lengths.

Tom Nash was the star of the show for the juniors, picking up a hat-trick of wins.

He took the J16 single sculls honours on Saturday and then on Sunday over the shorter 500m course he won both the J16 single sculls and the J18 single sculls.

Single sculling over 500 metres provided fruitful territory for Peterborough, with another four single victories.

Stuart Holmes won against Milton Keynes to lose his Novice status and Sarah Watson also picked up her first single sculling win in the Women’s J16 event.

In the Women’s J18 single sculls, Hannah Chatfield collected her second pot of the weekend, while in an all-Peterborough final in the J14 single sculls James Toynton beat Alex Leverage.

Toynton and Leverage then joined forces to beat Doncaster Schools to win the J14 doubles.

Also winning in a doubles event were Joan Heath and Anita Carter, beating Sudbury in the Women’s Masters E final.

There was also more City success in the larger boats with the Women’s IM3 coxed four of Charlotte Adams, Naimh Khosla, Eleanor Hawley and Emma Richardson coxed by Serena Ward winning against Cambridge 99 to collect their pots.

And finally a composite crew added to the trophy haul when Leicester’s Sally Horrocks, Angela Holohan and Liz Pulford were joined by Peterborough’s Hayley Marsters in the Women’s Masters C/D quads and they beat Sudbury by three and a half lengths in the final.
