Gill’s movement and speed was eventually too much for Juarez over 10 rounds and he was a comfortable winner on all three judge scorecards. The scores were 98-92, 98-93 and 96-94.

Gill, who attended the pre-fight press conference wearing a Peterborough United FC shirt, looked a little sluggish in the early moments of his first fight since August 1, but he stayed calm and gradually took control over a former world super bantamweight title contender.

Juarez tired late on and Gill cruised home with accurate jabbing to reclaim the WBA International Featherweight title.

After the fight, Gill admitted he hadn’t felt at his best. He told Sky Sports: “He was tough. He tried to exert a lot of pressure. He asked a lot of questions of me and I feel like I dealt with them in pretty good style.

“I didn’t feel my best in there, but when you’re stepping up the levels, you’re always going to feel like that and I’m pleased to get the win and move onto bigger and better things.”

Gill’s record is now 26 wins and one defeat in 27 professional bouts. the 26-year-old hopes to work his way to a world title shot.
