Both were narrowly beaten on points, but emerged with credit.

It was a tough test for Shirazi against a national finalist last year and he played his part in a thrilling three-rounder packed with action.

“This was a fantastic opening bout and the crowd loved it. I honestly believe Imraan can beat this lad next time round,” said Peterborough Police coach Chris Baker.

Peterborough’s Imran Aref (17) was also involved in a close bout, just missing out on a split decision in a 63kg match with John Smith from the Fenland Sparta ABC.

“There were only a few punches in it. It could have gone either way,” said Baker.
