It was a dream come true for 15 members of Peterborough Rugby Club's Under 8 team on Saturday (October 6) as they played on the hallowed Twickenham turf ahead of the televised Gallagher Premiership game between Northampton Saints and Leicester Tigers.

They played four other young sides from the East Midlands in the 80,000-seater stadium and also got to parade around the pitch at half-time.

“It’s been an incredible opportunity for these young players to take part in a tournament at such a legendary sporting arena as Twickenham,” said head coach Dan Stuffins.

“I can tell you that many of the parents and coaches were quite jealous of our Under 8s for having this opportunity. Despite the poor weather the children all loved the experience and played with smiles on their faces.”

The Borough Under 10 team met TV commentators Ugo Monye and David ‘Flats’ Flatman when they played in the Cambridgeshire Festival at Royston. The former England internationals were filming a promotional video for the RFU as part of the ‘Kids First Champion Club’ scheme.

There was victory for the club’s Under 15 team, away at St Ives, where they won 29-21.

Lawrence Teague, Ethan Manning, Taylor Shortland and Tom Abbondanza all crossed the line to score tries, with Jacob Gent kicking the other points.

Borough’s Under 16s went down 32-10 at Wisbech on the same weekend they lost 64-0 there last season. They were 25-0 down after 20 minutes but then strated to show how much progress they’ve made in a year with Ollie Cook and Brandon Tacticos scoring second-half tries as they dominated the rest of the match.

The Under 13s tasted victory for the first time this season with a 10-5 victory over Stamford as part of the club’s big festival of Under 13 rugby.

The club’s Under 15 girls’ side had a comfortable 89-19 win away at Kettering, with eight different try scorers, while the Under 13 girls suffered their first loss of the season, a surprise 5-20 defeat at the same venue.
