ATHLETICS: Peterborough AC are kings of the road

Peterborouigh 5k Grand Prix Series champion Stuart Haw.

Peterborough Athletic Club's road race dominance contuned last week with Stuart Haw securing overall victory in the Peterborough 5k Grand Prix Series.

Haw, who clocked 15:49 to win the final race in the series at Werrington, led home team-mate Steve Robinson in third (16:07), new PAC signee John Pike in fifth (16:24) and 19 year-old Amittai Ben-Israel in sixth (16:37). Danny Snipe rounded out the top 10 with 16:51 meaning Peterborough AC had five in the first 10 with several key players missing.

“I felt strong, so I just made the race as hard as I could,” said Woodston’s Haw. “I knew I was in a great position to win, but I wanted to make sure by pulling away early on.”

For Haw it’s been a hugely improved season that has seen him run personal bests for 1500m, mile, 3,000 and 5,000. His 4:28 mile is the 41st fastest in the country for his age group (Under 23).

“I’m in Paul Larkins’ training group and he and Andy Barber (who also coaches the group) have really helped me gain so much confidence this year,” he continued.

“I’m really looking forward to the autumn and I’ve just been picked to represent the East of England next month.”

It’s been quite a series for Haw and team-mate Ben-Isreal, who collected the runner-up spot in the Under 20 age group.

AYLESHAM & EAST KENT 10k

James Sadlier, also of Peterborough AC, had his best race ever when finishing second overall in the Aylesham and East Kent 10km in 39:04.

Sadlier has been running just a couple of seasons and has benefitted from a summer on the track, improving his best 10km by more than 10 minutes.
