Abbott rules on the Six Islands Pool

JVAC were back at Decoy Lakes and a packed Six Island Pool saw one end of the venue fish much better than the bottom end where the cars are parked.

It turned out to be a head to head between Dan Abbott on peg nine and Kevin Wilmot on peg 10 facing in the top corner.

At the final whistle it was Abbott taking the honours with 103lb 15oz of F1s caught on the long pole with maggot.

Wilmot caught a few bigger carp and barbel, again on the pole with maggot, to finish with 80lb 1oz.

Mick Mitchell was third from peg 15 with 56lb 15oz.

DECOY OPEN

It’s hard to believe the weights that were taken on the Willow Pool at Decoy Lakes on Saturday in the open match on Willows and Lou’s.

Most feared the worst as both lakes are notoriously fickle at the best of times let alone after only just thawing out after heavy frosts.

But it all came good for fishery regular John Whincup as he topped a strong field from peg 16 catching well right across on the pole then close in late in the match for 84lb 2oz all caught on maggot.

The minor placings went to Simon Godfrey (68lb 11oz), Keith Reynolds (65lb 10oz) and Tony Evans (64lb 14oz).
