A super Sunday as City crews finish at the head of affairs

Peterborough City Rowing Clubs Womens Novice coxed four celebrate their win at Boston.

They had 15 crews in action - three of them racing for the first time - and also featured in one composite crew and they came home with four wins and five second places.

The Women’s Novice coxed four of Beth Murphy, Emma Richardson, Laura Desert and Ciara O’Sullivan with Hannah Parker as cox were one of the first-time crews and they were emphatic winners.

They won their category by a massive 55-second margin over their nearest rivals.

In third place came another first-time Peterborough crew. Helen Moseley, Jo Burton, Emma Carling and Ann Casey with cox Victoria Keeble did well to remain in contention as they faced significantly younger opposition.

Completing the trio of first-timers, Peterborough’s Novice coxed eight came fourth of six crews in a tight event. Less than a minute separated the first and last crews.

Jim Burt and his coxless pairs crewmate Glyn Reed found themselves in competition with each other in the Masters E singles event and finished first and second respectively for Peterborough.

Another single sculling victory was provided by Hannah Chatfield in the Women’s J17 event. She finished an impressive 50 seconds ahead of her Leander opponent.

Tom Nash and Ilektra Apostolidou finished second in the J16 and Women’s IM3 single sculling categories respectively.

Tracey Rushton-Thorpe came second in the Women’s Novice single sculls in her competitive return after being injured for most of 2015.

A lack of intermediate single sculling events forced Camilla Plumb, James Plumb and Tom Dolby to race at Elite level and Camilla and Dolby both did well to finish ninth.

Joan Heath and Anita Carter finished second in the Women’s Masters D/E competition and Keith Blackman and Tim Lloyd finished third in the open Masters D/E competition, just two seconds behind second-placed Ancholme.

The J16 double of Libby Jarvis and Sarah Watson finished fourth from six entrants.

Finally, the composite coxless quad of Leicester and Peterborough’s Hayley Marsters easily won the Women’s Masters C/D category with a two-minute margin over the second place finishers.
