Woman seriously injured after car crashes into ditch near Peterborough

A woman was seriously injured after her car crashed into a ditch near Peterborough in the early hours of the morning.

Emergency services were called to Forty Foot Bank near Ramsey at 1.45am today.

Fire and rescue crews managed to release a woman from the car, a Toyota Auris.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said; "We were called at 1.43am today (4 December) with reports a vehicle had left the road and gone into a ditch in an unknown location.

"Officers conducted enquires and managed to identify the location as Forty Foot Bank near Ramsey Forty Foot.

"Officers were joined at the scene by paramedics and fire crews.

"A woman in her 50s who was driving the Toyota Auris was taken to hospital with serious injuries which are not thought to be life threatening.

"The road was close while recovery took place."

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: " Firefighters arrived to find a car in a ditch after leaving the road. Using specialist cutting equipment they released one female casualty who was left in the care of ambulance crews.

"The crews returned to their stations by 5.25am."

An East of England Ambulance Service spokesperson said:

“An ambulance attended to a female patient who had been involved in a road traffic collision at Forty Foot Bank in Ramsey just before 3.30am this morning. The patient was transported to Addenbrooke’s Hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
