Winning shirt on and off pitch for Jessica

The colourful shirt, designed by Jessica Bailey, was worn by the Peterborough club on Saturday, and rather than a silver fern, included ice creams, lollipops and flowers on the front.

The shirt was used for the club’s charity weekend, in aid of Little Miracles , with Jessica as the mascot - and she proved a lucky mascot for the players, who ran out 93-7 winners over Leicester Forest - one of the biggest victories in club history.

And it was equally successful off the pitch, with an amazing £3,000 being raised for the children’s charity as the jerseys were auctioned off, and collections made throughout the match.

Jessica’s mum, Kelly Bailey (30), from Westwood, said Jess was very excited about designing the shirt.

“She still has not taken her shirt off three days later.

“The shirt is all her favourite things - ice cream, family cakes and lollipops.

“Her daddy is a big rugby fan, so he is especially proud.

“And it seems she was a very lucky mascot for the team with the win as well.”

Michelle King, chief executive officer at Little Miracles, said: “It is amazing what the rugby club has done for us. They chose us as their charity of the year, and have done thinks like bucket collections, a Christmas party and various other events.

“I don’t know where we would be without their support this year, and I really want to say thank you for all they have done.”

The rugby club, based at Second Drove, Fengate, asked the charity for one of their members to design the shirt, and Jessica’s design was chosen from dozens of entries.

Jessica was the only person to have seen the limited edition jerseys before the game.

Club Vice Chairman Archie Bennett said: “ At this time last year we launched our new tag line “The Club For All” and part of this was to link up with a local charity.

“We chose Little Miracles in September, and to date we have raised over £1,000 for this great cause. This has been achieved with a combination of Saturday, and our annual Santa Run through town.

“The effort and enthusiasm that has gone into both these events from our members has been fantastic.

“We were overwhelmed by the generosity of those people who attended Saturday’s game and we know that this money will go a long way to helping Little Miracles in the work that they do. Everyone joined in and along with the individual considerable donations we had, one of our sponsors The Solstice made a single donation of £250.
