Wimbotsham man in court accused of frauds worth £220,000

George Adams, 22, who gave his address as West Way, Wimbotsham, entered no plea to the charges against him when he appeared in court in Lynn this morning.

He faces a total of 13 counts of fraud by false representation, which are said to have been committed between March 10 last year and January 30 this year.

Although many of the alleged offences are said to have been committed in Lynn and Downham, others are said to have happened in other parts of the county, as well as Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Essex and Scotland.

Court papers show one of the charges relates to an alleged attempt to obtain farm machinery worth £140,000, plus flight tickets to America worth almost £4,000, from a firm in Dereham, during August and September 2015.

In another allegation, Adams is said to have placed two online orders with a company in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire, in order to make a gain of more than £44,000 for himself.

Other charges relate to alleged incidents in Peterborough, Spalding, Halstead in Essex, Penicuik, near Edinburgh, and Ellon in Aberdeenshire.

The court declined jurisdiction on the case, which was committed to Norwich Crown Court.

A preliminary hearing will take place there on July 28.

Adams was released on unconditional bail until that date.
