Yellow alert for thunderstorms remains in place for Peterborough

The Met Office has issued a yellow alert for thunderstorms covering Peterborough today which follows dramatic rainfall over the weekend.

Sunday (August 16) saw torrential rain and hail in areas of Peterborough leaving many roads flooded and impassable.

London Road was flooded - leading to problems at the Peterborough United offices.Further storms are possible today with rainfall most likely in Peterborough later this afternoon - although the latest forecast puts this at only a 30 per cent chance.

Temperatures will peak at 22C (71.6F) and the unsettled picture will continue for much of the week.

More rain is expected on Tuesday but this is not expected to be as heavy as it was in recent days.

The Met Office said in a statement: “Further heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected at times and may lead to some flooding or travel disruption.

“Spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures.”
