The warning for today and tomorrow says: "Snow and ice may cause travel disruption tonight and early Saturday.

"What to expect:

"Probably some icy patches on some untreated roads, pavements and cycle paths, increasing the likelihood of accidents and injuries.

"Some roads and railways likely to be affected by snowfall, with longer journey times by car as well as bus and train services."

Trevor Robbins-Pratt, from Peterborough Weather Watch said it was still unclear as to whether snow would arrive in the city.

He said: "Firstly, we could see some wintry showers overnight, early hours Saturday morning and perhaps some wintry showers through Saturday.

"As with regards to snow potential for Peterborough is that there is a 'feature' that is expected to bring sleet/snow to the West, South West and Southern parts of the UK early hours Sunday and through Sunday.

"The main issue is as to the N/NE extent of the area of sleet/snow. At the moment to me, it looks like there is a marginal risk to areas W/SW and South of Peterbrough, meaning perhaps W/SW Northamptonshire and areas South of Huntingdon.

"So to sum up, I currently don't think Peterborough will see any heavy/substantial snowfall over the weekend, but it really is a headache for those of us that choose to throw their hat into the forecasting arena. All I can say is to folks is keep checking the website and my tweets for any updates on this."
