Peterborough’s weather warning upgraded to amber as Storm Francis set to hit city

The Met Office have upgraded the wind warning from yellow to amber for Peterborough this afternoon.

The amber warning is in place from 2pm until 10pm in Peterborough and across much of the Midlands, Wales and parts of the East of England.

Peterborough sits near the boarder between a yellow warning and the amber warning, with Cambridge sitting in the yellow section.

The amber warning says: “Very strong winds are likely to bring disruption to parts of England and Wales Tuesday during afternoon and evening.

“What to expect:

“Longer journey times and cancellations likely, as road, rail, air and ferry services may be affected

“Some roads and bridges likely to close

“There is a good chance that power cuts may occur, with the potential to affect other services, such as mobile phone coverage

“Flying debris is likely and could lead to Injuries or danger to life and probably some damage to buildings and trees, such as tiles blown from roofs and “branches on roads

“Injuries and danger to life is likely from large waves and beach material being thrown onto coastal roads, sea fronts and properties.”

After the amber warning period is over, the yellow wind warning will be in place until 9am tomorrow.
