Peterborough set for third heatwave of the year as 33C temperatures prompt heat health alert - here’s when it will be hottest

The heatwave is unlikely to be as strong as the one in late June, but scorching temperatures are expected

Temperatures in Peterborough are expected to hit 33C later this week, with the city expected to experience its third heatwave of the year.

Little over a week since Peterborough sweltered in record-breaking June temperatures of nearly 40C, residents are once again being warned to prepare for the extreme weather.

The city is currently under a yellow UKHSA heat health alert, which expires at 8pm on Saturday, July 11.

The alert warns of a greater risk to life of vulnerable people, increased potential for indoor environments to become very warm and an increase in water‑related incidents.

Temperatures in Peterborough are expected to remain above 30C for much of the week, with the heat building over the coming days.

Met Office meteorologist Becky Mitchell said: “The peak of the heat appears to be Thursday or Friday: 34C in the south-east.

“By comparison to the heatwave we saw in June, this heatwave won’t be as hot and humid, but it will be a prolonged spell of hot weather which lasts around a week.”
