Warning after out of control bonfire in Peterborough spreads to sheds

Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service has issued a warning after firefighters tackled an out of control bonfire in Peterborough.

At 4.39pm on Thursday crews from Stanground and Yaxley were called to a fire in Gladstone Street.

Firefighters arrived to find an out of control bonfire that was spreading to nearby sheds.

They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their stations by 6.45pm.

The cause of the fire was accidental.

A fire service spokesman said: “We are urging residents to think twice before lighting a bonfire while the Government advises us all to stay at home.

“Not only can these fires quickly escalate and get out of control, the smoke can aggravate some health conditions, including symptoms of Covid-19. Please consider this and think twice befoer having a bonfire.”
