Volunteers go back to school in Peterborough

A team of eight volunteers from insurance broker iGO4, which has Werrington offices, rolled up their sleeves to undertake the sizeable task of sprucing up two overgrown courtyard areas at the school.

Employees at iGO4 have the opportunity to take part in numerous volunteering and fundraising activities as part of the company’s corporate social responsibility programme, which aims to support the community in which it operates. Recent initiatives have generated over £4,700 for local charities, including the Sue Ryder hospice, resulting in donations of food and toiletries to local homeless shelters and refuges.

The company’s employee forum offered support in the form of volunteering which was gladly accepted, and staff at the school suggested that volunteers may be able to help tidy the school’s outside areas.

One of the volunteers, iGO4 commercial executive Gabriella Brown, said: “I really enjoyed it.

“It was great to have the chance to do something different to make a positive impact in the local community. The headteacher and caretaker at the school were really appreciative of our efforts to make the school look better, and we’ve been invited back in spring to see what it looks like with the new flowers. I’m looking forward to that.”

Rachel Lidgett, school business manager at Werrington Primary School, added: “I want to say thank you so much for all the hard work the team from iGO4 put in.

“The fruit of their labour is clear for all to see – the courtyard looks so much better, so we can’t thank the volunteers enough for giving up their time to help make our children’s environment better for them.”
