VIDEO: Spitfire flight helps attract crowds to Gorefield Show

A Spitfire from the Battle of Britian Memorial Flight flew over the showground during the event on Saturday.

The Second World War fighter plane was on its way to London, where it was due to participate in the Trooping the Colour ceremony for the Queen’s official birthday.

As the jet flew away, the public address announced: “He’s got to get his priorities right. Gorefield first. Now he’s got to go and see the Queen.”

The show is an important qualifying event for other larger competitions and is sanctioned by bodies including the Shire Horse Society, the British Show Pony Society, Equifest and the Showing Register (TSR).

Organisers reported increased entries in many of the equine classes, for which prizes were presented by North East Cambridgeshire MP Stephen Barclay.

Other highlights included a falconry demonstration and a display of dozens of vintage tractors, cars and motorbikes.

Youngsters were also able to enjoy land train rides around the show site throughout the day.
