UPDATE: Serviceman threatened with knife at RAF Marham

Police say they were alerted shortly before 3.30pm on Wednesday to reports of a man being approached by two other men in the area of Burnthouse Road and Ladywood Road.

The men are said to have threatened the victim, who was unharmed, with a knife, before fleeing in a dark car. The road was closed while police, working alongside military personnel, investigated the incident.

A Norfolk Police spokesman said late last night that the suspects had yet to be found and reassurance patrols were being carried out in the area. A further statement is expected from the force shortly.

Lorne Green, Norfolk’s police and crime commissioner, said: “We must not draw any conclusions as investigations are in their early stages and the constabulary and the military police are working closely together.”

“The incident is under investigation and the police are rightly keeping an open mind. There is nothing to suggest one motive above another and it is all subject to investigation.

“Our constabulary is well-equipped to respond to any eventuality of violent crime, regardless of motive.”

Officials at Marham have declined to comment on the incident, but have confirmed that the base’s annual families day will go ahead today as scheduled.
