Peterborough City Council wants to unveil a new scheme on the busy road between Pleasure Fair Meadow car park and the junction of Lady Lodge Drive in Orton Waterville.

The other projects would be between Park Road, from Huntly Grove to Dogsthorpe Road, and Broadway, from the junction of Eastfield Road to Park Crescent.

Funding of £625,000 for the projects is currently being sought from the Government through the Cambridgeshire and Peterborough Combined Authority as part of the second phase of the Emergency Active Fund.

The council is expecting to hear this month how much funding it will be allocated, but all money must be spent in the current financial year which ends by next April.

The first tranche of £175,000 funding has been spent on measures around the city centre including pop-up cycle lanes on Crescent Bridge, Priestgate, City Road and New Road.

The money has been received to encourage walking and cycling during the coronavirus pandemic.

A Peterborough City Council spokeswoman said: “We have identified those three locations and now need to do some feasibility work to see what the options are but the schemes do need to have on-road facilities and can’t just be a painted cycle lane.

“We should be able to provide more info in the coming weeks when we’ll know the outcome of the funding and feasibility investigations.”

To make sure the schemes are delivered by the end of next March, the council is planning to set up a working group with one member from each of the five political parties on the authority invited to join, alongside officers.

The working group would have no decision-making powers, but would be there to “aid greater understanding of issues, options, consultation and scheme development”.

If approved by the Cabinet on Monday the group would finish by the end of September 2021.
