With a week now having passed since work to improve the Queensgate Roundabout got underway, Peterborough City Council says that a range of works have already been completed.
Work at the roundabout began last Monday (July 6) as part of the wider City Link project to improve access between the railway station and city centre.
Due to be completed by summer 2027, City Link intends to create a more direct route for pedestrians and cyclists.
The Queensgate Roundabout will remain operational throughout the project, but traffic has now been reduced to a single lane.
The two subways underneath the roundabout have now closed and will soon be sealed shut with 1,000 tonnes of concrete.
What has been done so far?
A Peterborough City Council spokesperson told the Peterborough Telegraph that a range of works have already been carried out at the roundabout.
These include the installation of traffic and pedestrian management measures to the highway, as well as the delivery and installation of site welfare cabins and temporary works to support the project.
Last week also saw workers carry out site clearance works to the northern sector, including small excavations to expose utilities.
Street lighting clearance works to the subways’ central and southern sectors was also completed in preparation for the next phase of the project.
Teams carried out drainage works to the northern sector to allow scaffolding works to commence on Monday (July 13).
