Cambridgeshire Police are backing a campaign to make sure people wear their seat belts.

In the past three years, people who didn't buckle up and were involved in a Cambridgeshire collision were 11 times more likely to be killed or seriously hurt.

Last year alone, 390 tickets – more than one a day - were issued to people in Cambridgeshire for not wearing a seat belt. Evidence shows men are six times more likely to not wear one compared to women.

Chief Inspector Jon Roche, head of the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Hertfordshire Road Policing Unit, said: “If you are not wearing a seat belt and you are involved in a collision, chances are you will be killed or seriously injured.

"Collisions can happen at any time so it is vital that everyone wears a seat belt on every journey, no matter how short.”

The campaign - which is also being back by Lincolnshire Police - starts next week.
