10 months of roadworks to start on A47

The long-awaited work to improve the A47 Thorney to Wisbech stretch is set to begin next week.

The upgrading of the A47/A141 junction at Guyhirn, including lane widening and construction of a new roundabout is expected to last around 10 months. The majority will take place overnight (8pm to 6am) starting on, or after February 15.

There will be some full weekend closures (8pm Friday to 6am Monday) starting on or after February 19.

In conjunction with narrow lanes, there will be a speed limit of 30 miles per hour on the eastbound carriageway from a point 1000 metres west of Guyhirn Roundabout to Guyhirn Roundabout, and eastbound carriageway from a point 500 metres east of Guyhirn Roundabout to Guyhirn Roundabout.

The eastbound and westbound carriageways between New Cut Roundabout, Thorney and Guyhirn Roundabout, and eastbound and westbound carriageways between Redmoor Lane Roundabout, Wisbech and Guyhirn Roundabout will be closed.

All lay-bys adjacent to those lengths of A47 described at 2 above will remain closed for 24 hours daily for the duration of the works.

Diversions will be in place during the closures between Guyhirn Roundabout and New Cut Roundabout. Eastbound traffic will be diverted off the A47 at Welland Road Roundabout, then via the A16 towards Spalding, then the A151 and A17 to re-join the A47 at Pullover Roundabout. Westbound traffic will be diverted via the A605, A1139 and A15 to re-join the A47 at Bretton Way Interchange, Peterborough.

At Redmoor Lane Roundabout, Wisbech and Guyhirn Roundabout, westbound traffic will be diverted eastbound to Pullover Roundabout then via the A17, A151 and A16 to re-join the A47 at Welland Road Roundabout; vice versa for eastbound traffic.
