The cordon was removed after police traced the owner of a suitcase that had been left at the bus station and confirmed it was not suspicious.

The RAF bomb disposal squad had been contacted, but were called off before arriving at the scene.

Earlier Stagecoach had said: "Stagecoach East tweeted: "#Peterborough Queensgate has been closed due to a bomb scare. All services can be picked up at TKMaxx until further notice. Sorry for the inconvenience and be careful out there folks.

"Currently Westgate, Lincoln Road and Broadway are shut to us as well as Queensgate."
