Top tea for 60th anniversary

Proud to be from Yorkshire, but enjoying life in Peterborough, it was an anniversary to savour for Peter and Marion Wakefield last week.

The couple who are originally from Doncaster, and who are still part of the Yorkshire Association in Peterborough, were taken to Sophie T’s Vintage Teashop for their Diamond Wedding before going back to the house of daughter Helen Tyson.

Peter (84) and Marion (80) of Werrington have another daughter, Andrea, and four grandchildren - Nicole, Becky, Stephen and Michael.

Helen said: “They’ve had a fantastic week. They were thrilled to get the card from the Queen. They’ve had a lot of cards and flowers and they were thrilled with those.

Peter was chief instructor of the apprentice school at Perkins Engines and volunteers at Peterborough City Hospital. Marion is a dinner lady at Gunthorpe Primary School.

Asked what the secret of their marriage is, Helen said: “It’s give and take, and family.”
