Shock at scale of fly-tipping at two Peterborough sites

Shocked and appalled - that was the reaction from a Whittlesey woman to the staggering amount of fly-tipping she passes on a regular basis.

It is well known Peterborough, like many places, has a problem with dumped rubbish, but Linda Hoggett insists: “You have to see it to believe it.”

Having seen the problem build up for the past six months, Linda and a friend decided enough was enough on Tuesday and photographed the mess at a disused building on Padholme Road.

Linda was also critical of fly-tipping in Storey’s Bar Road which is in a similar area to fly-tipping the Peterborough Telegraph reported on last month. She said: “We have been seeing this fly-tipping build up. It looks disgraceful, it looks disgusting.

“I can’t understand why it’s allowed to carry on. You have never seen anything like it in your life. There are mattresses, bin liners, TVs - everything except the kitchen sink.”

A spokesperson for Amey, the city street cleaning service, said the fly-tipping is on private land so it is not responsible for it.
