Residents inspired to set up Last of Summer Wine-style tea room

Staff, residents, families and friends had all been working hard to completely refurbish the coffee shop to create a ‘Last of the Summer Wine’ themed Tea Room and General Store complete with old style till.

The project was part of care home group Anchor’s ‘Anchor Inspires’ Dementia Accreditation programme.

“We wanted to create a safe, fun and entertaining environment for all the residents who live here at Clayburn Court,” said home manager Sheila Fielding.

The organising committee called themselves the “Last of the Summer Winers”, aiming to make it look like the tea room where Compo, Clegg and Foggy met to plan their adventures.

A 24-hour sponsored bike ride was held on an exercise bike, on loan from Vivacity, and nearly 600 miles were covered in order to help raise funds. Local companies also donated both money and staff to help.

Residents, families and friends all enjoyed a lovely afternoon of dancing and singing and of course tea and cakes.
