The group of 14 students met with nursing staff, consultants and medical scientists and gained experience of working in cardiac care, medicine, pharmacy, radiography, physiotherapy and biomedical science.

Dr Kanchan Rege, Medical Director, said: “We were delighted to host Jack Hunt School’s Take Over Day again this year.

“It’s a marvellous opportunity for young people to find out what happens in our hospitals and for them to consider a career in the NHS where there is a broad range of roles to choose from.

“As the school is our next door neighbour, it makes sense for us to find more opportunities to work together, particularly with students who are interested in pursuing a career at the Trust when they leave school.”

Chris Game, assistant head teacher responsible for the school’s Take Over Day, said: “Take Over Day at Peterborough City Hospital is an excellent opportunity for our students to experience working life in a hospital.

“We thank the hospital and staff for their continued support of this invaluable day. We always get very positive feedback from our students about their experience.”

“I really enjoyed my day,” said Amina Yaqub.

“I’m interested in becoming a physiotherapist so it was very useful to observe what physiotherapists do and how they interact with patients.”
