Pupils ready for Summer games

The pupils have been busy putting plans in place to engage with people both young and old as part of the Get Set for Community Action programme.

Created by the British Olympic Foundation and British Paralympic Association, and made possible due to the Big Lottery Fund, the UK-wide Get Set for Community Action programme aims to help thousands of 14 to 19-year-olds to strengthen relationships between young people and their communities.

In total, 12 Young ambassadors and higher sports leaders from Years 10, 11, and 12 are involved with Jack Hunt School’s first community project - a link up with the local Age UK group which will see them organise sporting activities such as boccia and bowls – set to kick into gear after the Easter holidays.

There are also plans to hold a family day in the Summer with food and fun activities as well as a Strictly Come Dancing themed social night, shortly before the end of the Paralympic Games in Rio.

Pupil, Alice Taylor said: “The Get Set Initiative is a really inspiring project and a fun way to bring the community together.

“All three of our events will ideally get the community looking forward to Rio 2016.”
