£1,000 donation to help centre for elderly

The Butterfield Centre, based in Bourne, has been handed £1,000 from Persimmon Homes East Midland’s Community Champions fund.

The charity provides a meals on wheels service, lunch clubs, day care and activities to prevent social isolation and loneliness within its communities and is looking to improve facilities at its centre in North Road, Bourne.

Clare Megson, a trustee at the centre who made the successful application, said: “We help prevent social isolation and loneliness, and for many of our clients we are the only people they get to see all week.

“We provide meals on wheels throughout the week and even deliver on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, as well as hosting activities at our centre.

“We are trying to update the centre and give it a new lease of life by decorating, laying new flooring, and buying new furniture - the specialist support chairs needed are £300 each.

“So far more than £2,000 has been raised, and we have started decoration of our dining room. This generous donation from Persimmon Homes is greatly appreciated.”

The housebuilder’s national match-funding programme Community Champions seeks to support groups and charities working to improve the quality of life for local people.
