Work to begin on new Hilton hotel at Peterborough’s Fletton Quays
The start of the works to build the Hilton Garden Inn and new apartments was delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but will start soon after a ceremonial turf cutting event took place today.
Hilton say the hotel will boast a rooftop sky bar that will give patrons unapparelled views across the city and of Peterborough Cathedral.

Developers Propiteer, who have brought forward both sites, spoke about the project: “We are excited to be bringing a world-famous brand like Hilton to Peterborough and are eager to get started on construction.
“Safety and security are of course a high priority at the minute and our contractors will be implementing all necessary social distancing measures and other protections as required by the government. Our planned Spring 2022 completion of the hotel is reliant on no further disruptions to construction, but we won’t hesitate to press pause if we feel the safety of workers might be compromised.”
Graham Dodd, Managing director, Development, UK & Ireland, at Hilton said: “We are delighted to be working with some very collaborative and proactive stakeholders in this project and are very excited at the prospect of bringing our global brand to Peterborough.”

Speaking about the news Councillor John Holdich OBE, leader of Peterborough City Council, said: “Our vision for Fletton Quays was to kickstart a major development of a site that had laid undeveloped for years and together with the Peterborough Investment Partnership we have spearheaded its transformation and boosted our economy.
“I’m delighted that work is starting on the Hilton Garden Inn Hotel and the adjoining apartments - the next phase in the transformation of this site. Once complete it will create additional jobs and investment from people who are living there or visiting. Being able to begin work during a global pandemic is a situation to be rightly proud of and it is a vote of confidence in the city from investors as Peterborough begins to bounce back from COVID-19.
“Fletton Quays represents a new age of growth for Peterborough and is a showcase for future development opportunities. Along with the hotel, we will be welcoming new leisure and retail facilities, additional accommodation and work is expected to begin by the end of the year on the new government hub which will see 1,000 workers from five government agencies come together in a new building on site.

The turf cutting ceremony is a key milestone in the project and we will continue to work collaboratively with Propiteer and the professional team to deliver the project on time. The project is making excellent progress and will be completed to the highest modern construction standards whilst tackling and overcoming new ways of working in line with the ongoing Covid-19 situation.”
