Property developer to carry out works to correct 'building defects' at Peterborough's Fletton Quays

Property developer Weston Homes is to carry out a series of works at Fletton Quays to ‘correct defects’ and complete ‘unfinished works.’

Residents have raised a number of concerns since the residential blocks first opened in 2018. These include concerns works being unfinished as well as issues with flooding in the underground car park and with brittle paving blocks.

Fletton Quays is currently home to more than 350 apartments, which were delivered by Weston Homes, as part of the £120 million regeneration of the area.

Weston Homes no longer holds the freehold for the site but has committed to carrying out the works. The developer has, however, confirmed that issues raised around graffiti and ongoing maintenance required are no longer its responsibility.

A spokesperson for Weston Homes said: “Weston Homes has been made aware of residents’ concerns at Fletton Quays. We are coordinating with the managing agent Gateway and a Weston Homes contractor is attending the development week commencing 6th April to rectify issues identified as the responsibility of Weston Homes.

We are no longer the freeholder of the site and some of the concerns identified by the residents, including graffiti and issues related to ongoing maintenance, do not fall under our responsibility.

"We acknowledge residents’ concerns and will endeavour to undertake necessary remediation works in a timely manner.”

In welcoming the news, North West Cambridgeshire MP Sam Carling said: “Residents at Fletton Quays have raised longstanding concerns with me about building defects and unfinished works affecting communal areas and, in some cases, safety and property sales.

“After taking these issues up directly with the original developer, Weston Homes has now agreed to arrange remedial works at the development from the week commencing April 6.

“Importantly, these initial works are expected to be carried out at no cost to leaseholders or residents. Once they are complete, I will review the outcome with residents and continue pressing for any remaining issues to be properly addressed.

“Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to share their experiences - I will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide further updates when available.”
