Conservative Paul Bristow issued a tongue in cheek response to his Labour critics who accused him of promoting healthy food.

One of those to call him out was his predecessor as city MP Lisa Forbes who questioned his location for the surgery.

But in response, the MP released a video on social media from inside the restaurant in Queensgate where he stated: “I’ve met lots and lots of people and helped lots and lots of people - my constituents - today.

“I have come under criticism from the last Labour MP for Peterborough and Labour Party activists for hosting a surgery here in McDonald’s, claiming I’m not promoting healthy eating.

“I’d like to point out to them that there are plenty of healthy choices, under 400 calories, on the McDonald’s menu, including the crispy chicken salad. There are some carrots and some fruit which I’ll be taking back for my daughter.

“As for me, though, I prefer a Big Mac.”
