The Peterborough Labour Party had overwhelmingly backed Mr Corbyn to be leader both when he first stood in a leadership contest, and when he faced a challenge from Owen Smith.

Leader of the Labour group on Peterborough City Council Cllr Shaz Nawaz said: “The Labour Party is a thoroughly democratic organisation; our members believe that Keir is best placed to lead us into the future.

“We have had the pleasure of welcoming Richard to campaign with us previously and obviously he made a good impression during his time here.”
