More grass cuttings approved by Peterborough City Council after string of complaints

Places which currently receive up to three grass cuttings a year will now receive eight over the same period.

It comes after many readers got in touch with the Peterborough Telegraph to highlight the problem of overgrown grass near where they live.

Some of the pictures sent in showed grass up to a metre high.

The extra £6,500 required for the additional cuttings will be made up by charging performance penalties on Amey, the firm which delivers environmental services for the council.

The council had budgeted to save £13,000 by reducing the number of grass cuts in certain areas from 10 to one or three, but as the grass cutting cycle is half-way through the shortfall is £6,500.

The ruling Conservative administration had announced in May that it was going to increase the number of grass cuts.

That decision has now been confirmed subject to it being called-in.
