The footpaths will be widened to 2.5 metres so they are able to accommodate both pedestrians and cyclists. Once completed they will include markings and signs indicating a dedicated shared use footway/cycleway.

Lighting and signage will also be upgraded during the works which are expected to last for six weeks.

Andy Tatt, head of Peterborough Highway Services for Peterborough City Council, said: “We will keep disruption to a minimum whilst these works are taking place and access will be maintained at all times to the Lido, Key Theatre and Embankment.

“We want to make sure we have good footpaths and cycleways across the city centre which are accessible for all, which is why we have worked closely with the Disability Forum and Sustrans in pulling the plans together.”

Following completion of the Lido gardens works, the focus will move to the footpath beside the Car Haven car park. The existing footpath will be widened so that it can accommodate both cyclists and pedestrians.

These works are expected to get underway in July.
