Mr Vara, who voted Remain in the referendum but has since backed making sure Brexit takes place, tweeted straight after the vote: “Today’s Commons vote passing the EU Bill delivers on the 2016 referendum result and the result of the general election last year. Democracy has prevailed.”

Mr Bristow, a committed Brexiteer, has described the deal as “great news for British families and businesses”.

The House of Lords will now vote on the deal.
