Combined Authority Mayor to take leave of absence due to heart surgery

Cambridgeshire and Peterborough’s Combined Authority Mayor Dr Nik Johnson is expected to be absent for around three months as he undergoes heart surgery next week.

The extended leave has been taken at the advice of his doctor at the Royal Papworth Hospital.

From Friday (November 18), the authority will be led by Cllr Anna Smith as Deputy Mayor. Cllr Smith is the current Leader of Cambridge City Council.

Gordon Mitchell, Interim CEO of the Combined Authority said: “I have spoken with the mayor, deputy mayors and leaders of the Combined Authority and have an agreement that they will work closely to continue to deliver on the Sustainable Growth Ambition, develop our strategy direction and the vital work that the Combined Authority is currently delivering.

"We all wish Dr Nik Johnson a speedy recovery and look forward to welcoming him back when he is recovered.”
