Police looking for driver after car collides with road sweeper in Peterborough

Police are looking for the driver of a car which crashed into a road sweeper in Peterborough today.

Police want to find the driver of a grey Mercedes car which collided with the sweeper in Wellington Street, Eastgate at around 9am this morning (June 19)

The road was closed for some time but has now reopened.

Police say the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot before officers arrived and a search of the area was carried out to no avail.

Police are asking the public to get in touch if they have any information.

Anyone with any information is urged to report this online at www.cambs.police.uk/report or call 101, quoting incident number 130 of 19 June.

In a separate incident police say they were are called just after 8am to the Boongate roundabout in Peterborough with reports of a collision between a van and a car.

Officers attended, together with paramedics and firefighters.

It is believed two people were injured as a result of the collision, though their injuries were not believed to be life-threatening.
