Peterborough man pleads not guilty to racism charges after video goes viral on the internet
A man charged with racially abusing a couple in Peterborough will stand trial in the summer.
Arun Ali, (30), of Outfield, in Bretton, Peterborough, appeared at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court this morning (Monday) after a video of an incident which occurred on February 24 appeared on social media.
Ali was charged with racial common assault, common assault, a public order offence, a racially aggravated public order offence and careless driving.
During the short hearing, he pleaded guilty to the common assault of a woman, but not guilty to all other offences.
It is alleged the incident started after a collision between two cars on Alexandra Road in Peterborough.
Magistrate Peter Waterfield adjourned the hearing until Monday, July 31 - the first available date for the scheduled four hour trial at Peterborough Magistrates’ Court.
Ali, who was supported by a number of friends and family who sat in the public gallery, was bailed to an address outside of Cambridgeshire until the next hearing.
