Peterborough firefighters kept busy with series of fires over weekend

Firefighters in Peterborough were kept busy over the weekend with a series of blazes in and around the city,

On Saturday evening crews were called to Stowfen Drove in March after straw bales caught fire.

They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their station by 11.35pm.

An investigation revealed the fire was started accidentally.

At 12.43am on Sunday (19) crews from Stanground were called to a fire on Appleyard in Stanground, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a car on fire. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using a hose reel and returned to their station by 1.30am.

The cause of the fire was deliberate.

At 2.03am on Sunday (19) a crew from Manea was called to a fire on the A1101 near Welney.

Firefighters arrived to find a car well alight. Wearing breathing apparatus they extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their station by 4.10am. The fire was started accidentally.

At 3.41pm on Sunday (19) crews from Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on Western Avenue in Dogsthorpe, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a well-developed fire involving a shed that was spreading to a house. They extinguished the fire using hose reels and returned to their station by 4.50pm. The cause of the fire was accidental.

At 7.08pm on Sunday (19) crews from Dogsthorpe were called to a fire on Essendyke in North Bretton, Peterborough.

Firefighters arrived to find a fire involving a tree and extinguished it using a hose reel. They returned to their station by 8.05pm.
