Watch as drug dealer is arrested after crashing during a high speed pursuit with police

A drug dealer led police on a high-speed pursuit during which he reached speeds of 85mph in a 40mph zone before crashing into a tree.

Martin Thompson (36) was driving in High Road, Guyhirn, near March, when police signalled for him to pull over.

Fearing officers would discover drugs paraphernalia in his car, he ignored the police and drove at 70mph through Wisbech St Mary, eventually reaching 85mph in a 40 zone.

Thompson tried to take a left turn but crashed into a large oak tree in Main Road, Wisbech, where he was arrested.

Police found the drugs paraphernalia in his car and which included cannabis, cocaine, scales, and cash.

Thompson, of no fixed abode, pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, possession with intent to supply class A and B drugs, driving whilst disqualified and without insurance at Cambridge Crown Court on Thursday (20 November).

He was sentenced to 16 months in prison and disqualified from driving for three years and six months.

Afterwards, Detective Constable Olivia Manton, who investigated, said: “Thompson’s driving was extremely dangerous.

"He clearly knew police would find evidence of his drug dealing if he stopped and was willing to take unacceptable risks to dodge justice.”
