Vulnerable residents urged to contact gas company as outage hits more than 400 Peterborough homes

Vulnerable residents have been urged to contact their gas company for help after an outage has left more than 400 Peterborough homes without their supply.

Many residents living in the PE7 area of the city, mostly on the Hampton Gardens and Lakeside Edge estates, noticed issues with their gas pressure on Sunday (November 6) and have been advised to turn off their supply in response.

This has left many without heating for the last couple of nights that has seen temperatures drop to below freezing.

The area is supplied by GTC and engineers from Cadent are on the site investigating the source of the problem. The latest update on the GTC website was issued yesterday (November 8) AT 6:15pm and reads “GTC engineers are continuing on site investigations into the poor pressures customers are experiencing in the Hampton Gardens area of Peterborough.

“If you experience poor pressure to your appliances please try adjusting the time clock on your heating system and delay the switch on by 30-90 minutes, this will assist with the performance of the network for the time being.

“Should you smell gas, please call the gas emergency service on 0800 111 999. We do apologise for any inconvenience we have caused and are grateful for your ongoing patience and understanding throughout this incident.”

In the meantime, anyone with young babies, a disability/chronic illness or is elderly/vulnerable has been asked to contact GTC on 01359 240363 and they will do their best to create a priority register to get heaters sent out.

The Peterborough Telegraph is in contact with GTC and will update more on the issue when we have it.
