The effects of the outage were felt mainly in the PE4 area of the city, with residents in Werrington the worst hit.

Residents were reporting problems as early as Monday (November 24) and some did not see the issues resolved until Wednesday.

The outage also affected phone signals with people finding messages severely delayed or not getting sent at all.

One resident told the Peterborough Telegraph that they had to drive from their home on Fulbridge Road to Gunthorpe before they could get a signal.

Virgin Media have now confirmed that the damage was caused by a ‘third party’ and apologised for the inconvenience.

A Virgin Media spokesperson said: “Due to a third party damaging our cables on Monday, a small number of customers in the Peterborough area were unable to access their broadband services. We have now resolved the issue and apologise for any inconvenience caused.”
