Tributes paid to much-loved member of the performing arts community in Peterborough - Sylvia Drake

note-0 Tributes have been paid to a much-loved Peterborough woman who sadly died this month.
Sylvia Drake passed away peacefully on November 13 after a short illness, aged 90.
Born and raised in Stanground, she was well known in the community – having spent much of her life involved in performing arts and the theatre.
As a child who had a love of singing, Sylvia became one of the famous discoveries of talent scout Carroll Levis on the first ever radio talent show.

Her family said: “We wish to announce her loss and celebrate a life filled with warmth, creativity and devotion to those she loved.
“Born and raised in Stanground, Sylvia later made her home in Northfield Road, Peterborough, where she lived independently until her passing.
"Her presence in the community was unmistakable, and she will long be remembered for her generous spirit and love of the performing arts.
“A well known figure in Peterborough’s amateur dramatic scene, Sylvia was an active member of several local groups over the years including Peterborough Operatic, Westwood Musical Theatre and Revellers. She was also a familiar and much-loved face at the Key Theatre, where she delighted in supporting countless productions. Perhaps most proudly, she was the biggest fan of Kindred Drama, the youth theatre company based at the Key.
“Sylvia leaves behind her children Karen and Mark. She was predeceased by her son Kevin. She was a cherished grandmother to nine grandchildren - Lisa, Leon, Stuart, Sarah, Helen, Rachel, Jedidi, Cloe and Billy, and a great grandmother to nine great grandchildren, with another on the way - a joyful piece of news she received shortly before her passing.”
A service to honour Sylvia’s life will take place at Peterborough Crematorium on Monday 1st December, followed by a celebration of her life.
The family added: “All who knew her, or whose lives were touched by her kindness and enthusiasm for the arts are warmly invited to attend.”
