“This is the biggest ever in Peterborough!” he said, adding; “there will be more separate rides than there’s ever been before.”

Those attending this year will have no fewer than six roller coasters, 22 adult rides, and over 30 children's rides to choose from.

2024 highlights include a 36-metre-high Ferris wheel, and the iconic ‘XXL’, which will swing adrenaline junkies to a whopping 154 feet at speeds reaching 60mph.

The Mayor of Peterborough, Councillor Marco Cereste will officially open the Bridge Fair on Thursday evening by reading the traditional proclamation.

While some have voiced concerns about the potential effects of the recent inclement weather, John is not worried.

“The weather is against us slightly at the moment but the Embankment is a site that holds up really well,” he said.

“We’re pretty confident it’s all going to be good.”

As well as being bigger, this year’s event is also offering visitors several new attractions, with a licensed bar (on site) and a model fairground show (at nearby Railworld) both on hand.

“Nobody has ever attempted to put on a fairground model show in Peterborough,” said the show’s organiser, Jay Desmond.

“There’s going to be myriad models coming from various parts of the UK [and] visitors will be greeted with a full-size working fairground organ as they enter the premises.”

The model fairground show – which will include models of various scales (including 1/76, 1/24, and 1/12) – will take over the entire ground floor of Railworld’s Globe Hall.

It will run from 4-6.30pm and be free to enter, although donations to Railworld Wildlife Haven are encouraged.

Bridge Fair will open at 6pm on Thursday September 26 and will run every day until October 6.

Cheap nights are on Thursdays when most rides will cost £1.50. Giant firework displays will be held each Saturday at 9.30pm.
